The first mandala art of record is from the Hindu text known as the Rig Veda, dated between 1500-500 BCE. Mandalas were widely used by followers of Buddhism dating back to the 4th c. CE, and while mostly attributed to Buddhism, the art form has meaning for cultures across the world, in many media and forms.
